Giro Ionos Road Racing Helmet (Large, White/Silver)

Product Description

The coolest helmet in the peleton - and features the new Roc Loc 5 fit system. After more than ten years of refinement, this ground-breaking fit system provides an entirely unique use experience with an unmatched level of comfort, stability, adjustability and weight savings. With Roc Loc 5, you can easily dial-in both fit tension and adjust vertical position with a single hand. Just twist the dial for a tighter feel on tough terrain, then back it off a notch and relax across the flats or a warm climb. Even with these remarkable features, Roc Loc 5 is still 40-percent lighter than its popular predecessor, Roc Loc 4. Roc Loc 5 systems is: 1) Micro Dial. The heart of the Roc Loc 5 is this ratcheting, micro-adjusting dial. A simple, two-finger twist of the Micro Dial opens or closes the retention system and each click is audible. 2) Three-Position Vertical Fit - It's never been easier to change vertical positions and fine-tune fit. We incorporated a three-position bracket that features 15-millimeters of precise up/down movement. Like the Micro Dial, this system can be adjusted without removing the helmet. 3) Carefully crafted ergonomic arms are shaped to be as comfortable as possible, yet work flawlessly with Giro eyewear (what we call Super Fit engineering). 4) Dual Pods - These two panels are designed to firmly grasp the back of your head while comfortably cradling the occipital lobe. Strap management - with Roc Loc 5, your helmet straps are woven through the fit system, so they are always in the perfect position. Complex Internal Design - Dozens of small parts work together seamlessly to provide exceptionally user-friendly adjustment. Minimal and Light, yet Strong - Although this fit system is 40% lighter than its predecessor, it's much stronger. In testing, Roc Loc 5 performs flawlessly, even after 6,600 cycles (equivalent to 3 years of riding with 3 round trips per day).

  • 21 massive front, side, top and rear vents offering 15% more ventilation in comparison to a Giro Atmos
  • Full composite internal reinforcement sub frame
  • Internal webbing attachmnet
  • X-Static antimicrobial padding
  • Winter liner included

5.0 out of 5 stars This helmet works!, October 5, 2011

The least I could do is write a review about this awesome helmet. My previous Giro Ionos is on display as a reminder to wear your helmet. The Giro Ionos saved what little brain cells I have. I took a spill on the road going 27mph. I remember hitting the pavement and seeing $$$$ because I knew I would have to buy a new helmet. This helmet is designed to break so the shell shock will keep you alive. It cracked in 8 different spots. I was sold on Giro Ionos and bought a new from Amazon. Light, comfortable, life saver... I will always buy Giro!

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing!!!, August 5, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase( What's this?)
I feel obligated to write this review, because I read many reviews that ultimately made me decide that I made the right choice on this Giro Ionos.

This is a great HELMET! I did a lot of research before purchasing this helmet, and I am very happy I made this choice for my safety, fit and style.

The helmet fits perfect and has the option to custom fit it to your head...per instructions.

You will not go wrong, nor regret this purchase!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great cycling Helmut, August 16, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase( What's this?)
I ride about 4500 miles a year ( raod bike ) and tend to go through helmets. I have used several Giro helmets in the past and have been very satified with them; however, the Iononos Road Racing has been the best so far. Very light, comfortable on the hottest days and easy to adjust for just the right fit. It's good looking to boot.

5.0 out of 5 stars I Hate Helmets, March 31, 2009

This review is from: Bell Array Bike Helmet (Sports)
OK...I admit it...I don't have much use for bicycle helmets. I don't know how I've been riding for 50+ years and survived without wearing a helmet. I guess the same way I survived riding around in a car for many years before seatbelts and kid car seats. I must just be a survivor.

My problem with bike helmets years ago when people first started considering using them was they were heavy and they made you feel like you were a benched linebacker. They were like wearing a heated kettle in the summer and what do you do with it when you weren't riding? No...I don't need to wear a darn helmet.

Then I started to do a little mountain biking. Not quite the same as my past experience and now that I've reached the "age of maturity" and my nagging spouse has honed her skills...I decided to consider the merits of riding with a little protection for my noggin.

This brings me to the part where I share my experience of the Bell Array. I knew I wanted a Bell helmet... Read more

More low-profile than most cycling helmets, although it doesn't completely avoid the tragedy of making you look like a mushroom-head. Definitely more sober and less flamboyant than most other high end helmets. I like the fit system a lot, it has plenty of vents, and it feels light on the head. Probably not for avant garde fashionistas, but that is part of why I like it. The bottom line is that you get a fine, high-end helmet at a mid-range price.

I purchased this helmet after hitting a dog at 30mph and destroying my old one. I was looking for comfort, air-flow, and weight, in that order. The primary reason I ordered from Amazon was they had this helmet for a great price, and I could get it here quick.

Functionally, this helmet has been great. I get plenty of air-flow through the vents to keep my head cool, and I have done several 2-3 hour rides, and rarely notice this helmet. Hopefully I won't need another helmet for a few more years, but if I do, this will likely be it.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Step Closer, March 15, 2011
For anyone out there who is considering whether or not to make the leap and purchase the iPad 2, this review is for you. If you're still debating between the iPad 1 and the iPad 2 check out my review of the first generation iPad right here on Amazon to see a discussion of its strengths and weaknesses with a number of people commenting (both positively and negatively) over the past 11 months.

Let me begin by saying this upfront, I don't work for Apple, I don't own Apple Stock, and whether you buy an iPad, Xoom, a laptop or a pad of paper and pencil I don't get anything for writing this. I'm not an Apple "fanboy" although I can give credit where credit is due and lately Apple has deserved a lot of credit for some of their products.

Physical Characteristics
The iPad 2 is absurdly thin. More importantly than it's thinness is its tapered edge which feels more natural in your hand. One of the biggest complaints about the original iPad was it really wasn't... Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars iPad pros and cons, April 23, 2011
By
Larry J. Crockett (Twin Cities Minnesota) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
People need to be aware that the reviews you see for the iPad often reflect the old Mac/PC platform wars with some people making comments who simply don't like iPads from a distance, without actually owning one, because they see it as part of the deplorable Apple mania they find so distasteful. They're entitled to their opinion, of course, but it is unfortunate they skew the evaluation of this product without the deep acquaintance one needs in order to give it an insightful evaluation.

I have taught computer science at the college level for 26 years and have had computers with all kinds of operating systems. I don't own Apple stock and have never known anyone who works at Apple. I therefore have no connection to Apple.

I have had my iPad for about a month and read a fair number of reviews before I purchased, spent some time using one at the store, and thought about what I might use one for, in contrast to my laptop with which I am well satisfied. People too... Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars Comparison of my IPad 2 with my Xoom, April 8, 2011
By
A (Seattle, WA USA) - See all my reviews
I have purchased both an iPad2 and Xoom for different family members. I thought it worth comparing the two devices for anyone interested. Many of my comments are subjective so bear that in mind when reading the review.

External appearance and feel:
The iPad2 screen has a different feel from the Xoom screen - the iPad2 is a bit slicker, less likely to stick when moving short distances. The screen on the Xoom tends to show fingerprints more than the Ipad2 for some reason. Everyone in this family thinks that the iPad2 looks sharper than the Xoom.

Both weigh 1.6 lbs. Subjectively, the Xoom feels heavier than the Ipad2, but it's an illusion perhaps caused by it's slightly smaller size. UPDATE: I need to learn to use the scales - the Xoom is about 3 ounces heavier than the iPad2.

Both have a similar size screen, measured diagonally. But the aspect ratio is different - 4:3 for iPad2, 16:9 for Xoom. This means that the iPad2 actually has a larger... Read more
